Core Workflow

The tool follows a three-step process to generate your GPX file:

1. Paste a full Google Maps directions link directly from the address bar, or a shared link you received from another user. The tool parses the full link locally in your browser, no external service is used to read link content.

2. Extracted stops are sent to a public FOSSGIS routing server running on OpenStreetMap data, which returns a route that follows actual public roads. Elevation data for the route profile is pulled from public AWS terrain tiles.

3. Edit the resulting track by dragging, adding, or removing stops directly on the map interface. When the route matches your intended path, export the final file as standard GPX 1.1 for use with any GPS device or navigation app.

Supported Travel Modes

• Driving, cycling, walking, and two-wheeler routes are fully rebuilt along matching road networks. You can switch between travel modes at any time to regenerate a route optimized for that movement type.

• Transit and flight routes are not rebuilt, since Google Maps links do not include actual public transit or flight geometry. The tool will still import all listed stops so you can export them as a GPX point list.

Privacy Rules

No link, coordinate, or route name is stored by the service. The only data that leaves your browser is the list of stops from routes with two or more points, which is sent to the public FOSSGIS routing server to generate the road-following line. Short Google Maps links that redirect (maps.app.goo.gl, goo.gl) are resolved once through the service's server, with no data logged or retained.

Known Limitations

The tool does not support Google My Maps links, cid= place ID only links, or bulk conversion of multiple links at once. It only outputs standard GPX 1.1 files, no other geospatial formats. For My Maps exports, use the separate GPX and KML converter tool on the same site. Google Maps links do not contain the full original route geometry from Google, only the list of stops, so the rebuilt route may follow different streets than the one you viewed on Google Maps. Adding extra waypoints in segments where the generated line deviates from your intended path will fix this issue.
